Another excellent adventure on the Ottawa National Forest!

With the snow in town on the low side, and another unseasonably warm day predicted, the pack thought a good place to go for a ski would be at Courtney Lake which is at a higher elevation and gets more snow.
Gromit! We camped here this fall.

Ya Wally, they used to groom this for skiing.
We'd guess Jim will again this year.  Let us know Jim!

They call this the "Circle of Life Trail". It's part of the ski trail system.

We were so glad for the good snow depth here!
We admired the little balsam, holding up under the big snow load.

Me and Wally led the way, as usual.

Seems like March, not December.

Ya Gromit!
I don't remember seeing the sun much at all, last December.
It got to 47 today, according to the thermometer in the dog truck.
Out in the sun exposed area, the 2-leggeds were complaining
that the snow was sticky. It was no problem for all-paw drive,

We're just so glad to be out romping around on this fine winter day!

Hunting was good, as usual.

After a lunch break, we headed out for more adventure.
We stayed off the lake, since there was no life guard on duty.

Long shadows at mid-day show that the solstice will soon be upon us.

We spied some grouse tracks. We saw several, too.

OK, let's head east to Six Mile Lake.

Old foundation or a swimming pool? You decide...
Ya that's Six Mile Lake in the distance.

Interestingly, there's an old burned out tree here,
must be a white pine or hemlock.

Snow depth was much shallower here, under the hemlocks.

"Tree Pee" - almost never seen this time of year!
It's from a yellow birch limb over the trail.

After we got back to town, as a special
treat, we got to stop at our favorite store!
Someone recently chewed up his bed and
for some reason Sandy thought it should be replaced.

You can always meet a new friend at Erickson Feed!

Hey! Let's tussle.

OK! We all hope to come back here soon.
