Tuesday trail projects on Boundary Road and in Chassell

Sandy took Tuesday off so we of course were out working on trails. In the morning, we packed up and headed to the Pilgrim Watershed Trail on Boundary Road.
Back to brush trimming.
Lotsa saplings were moved off today.
Oh yeah, the old caved in corderoy culvert.
It collapsed when the logs it was made with, rotted away.
We were able to find lotsa rocks to fill the holes in.
Someone could have gotten hurt, stepping into one of these.
Getting there....
Done!  This took two hours to fill.
Also needed to fill these in before the trails are mowed.
Later, we headed to Chassell, to help weed whack
a few grassy spots on the trails.
Keith met us there so it was pretty quick work with
the 3 of us.
We didn't get all of the trail cleared today.
I don't mind running through the tall weeds but
I guess the 2-leggeds do.

Out-n-about fun for the weekend!

These photos are from two days over the weekend. We didn't go far from home, but any time you can get out in the woods is an adventure as far as we're concerned!
The pack was doing some brushing on Saturday.

Me and Wally kept an eye out for vermin.

Ya they cut and pulled lotsa saplings off.
This was on Pilgrim River Watershed trails.

We also got out for a romp at the Black Creek preserve.

We hadn't been here since some time last year.

Mutts don't need no maps!

I wonder if we'll be able to take a dip?

Oh, yeah!

That was so fun, I had to jump down for another dip.
The photo doesn't do justice - this really was a steep bank.

We got to the river mouth.

We had to test the water here too.

I went to the far side and back.  Refreshing!

Everything is lush and green.

See ya next year!

Recent trail news and other summer fun!

These photos were taken over this past weekend. Our pack hoped to go camping down at Lake Ste Kathryn NF campground and work on the trails there, but word got back that the bugs were terrible down there.   That didn't sound like fun for kicking off camping season, so we stayed home and worked on the Pilgrim Watershed Trails off of Boundary Road.
We got the BIG boss with us today and it's loaded with tools.

I helped Sandy bag over a stump.
Not sure if it's an invasive species or not.

Lots of tall shoots cut and slash cleaned up today.

Break time at the picnic table! I hope they plan to share...

Younger mutts are in the woods romping while older,
smarter dogs roll in the grass.

Ya!  We have noted her going deaf over the past few weeks.

Sure is lush and green.

No weed whacker today, just the pole saw.

Eventually the young mutts tire and hang out close by.

Then a family stopped by!

Oh you know that we love kids.

On Sunday we headed out bright and cheery while it was cool.

The pack wore mud boots in the morning.
Lotsa wet spots yet.

I kinda like getting my feet wet. It's refreshing!

Ya the Boss came in handy again.

Break time! Let's go down to the river.

Oh ya, the Pilgrim River is so nice.

Done with the 2-track on this side.
Now let's get to the other 2-track.

Some friendly hikers came by just to see us.

And Cocoa too! We tussled and chased.

Hope to see you again soon!

We had special visitors a couple times now.
Napur and Kishan love to be out in the woods just like we do!

Sunday NCT hike! Gromit's arthritis.

Gromit needed to be left home for this hike since her arthritis has worsened and sadly, is making her much more lame.  This hike was on Sunday. Yes we have made her an appointment to see if her meds could be changed ASAP.   Folks, she is getting very feeble for a 13yo.   On a happier note, Friday we're heading out for our first "real" camping trip for the season.
We parked at the bend of South Laird Rd.
We'd not hiked here in some time.

Shortly into the woods, we found trees across the trail.
Spruce Bud Worm has been at work.

Great day for a hike!

We thought this was a strange looking Painted Turtle
on the trail, but someone said its a Red Eared Slider.

More trees across the trail.  We found dozens like this today.

We made it to Silver Creek!

Canopy is full.
This one just about took the board walk out.

Bug-free lunch on the Sturgeon River bridge and
our turnaround point today.

Seen just off the road by the river

Did you know that Kelpies like to jump up on things?
We made it back!
