Bob Lake and Beaver Lodge Trail inspection hike.

Sunday afternoon was sunny and calm so after house project chores were done, we headed west to Bob Lake to hike and check the Beaver Lodge trail out.  We clear this short but nice trail, each summer.

The weather was grand!

This is the short trail right by the lake.  It was pretty good.

These two had been on shore.

No one camping here today.

Didn't see the resident trumpeter swans either.

Now back on the Beaver Lodge Trail.

Oh dear, we found dead-falls right off.

We spied turtles sunning themselves here.

We also hiked to and a bit down the NCT and back.

Lots and lots of trees fallen across this trail.

We spied a new beaver pond.

Wonder if anyone will get out here and clear this mess?

What a nice hike.
Maybe we can come back over the week end to camp?

NCT and Courtney Lake and late season snow romp.

With our weekend forecast of temps as high as 60, the season's skiing future looked bleak.  So on Saturday morning we packed the dog truck and headed south to ski on the North Country Trail and at Courtney Lake.

No problem parking on the shoulder of FH 16.

The plow berm snow is black from stamp sand.
We noticed that snowmobiles had been on the NCT recently.

Ball caps and sunglasses required for spring skiing!

The sleds following the trail, spun down
to the dirt and made a mess for skiing.

Bare patches are appearing.

Looks like the sleds, hit the log across the trail.  Ha!

Woodpecker buffet!

Overall we had a pretty nice ski here.

Then we stopped at Courtney Lake for one more ski there.
When can we come back and camp here?

The Circle of Life trail had a bare patch here and there.

We took a break on the bench.

Snow baths are always refreshing!

The spiral tree.

The shallow snow depth made it
good going for dogs with small paws.

This is hunting season.
Although, vermin season is always open!

Kelpies are fast!

Just a little bit of snow, remains on this bench.

Back in the campground.

Are we going to be camping here soon?  It's empty!

After two romps, I was tired and wanted to get back in the truck.

On the drive home, we spied a swan who arrived early.
Saving a spot on its favorite pond perhaps?

O Kun-De-Kun Falls spring adventures!

On Saturday, we headed west to O Kun-De-Kun Falls.
The 2-leggeds used their skis, since we had
some fresh snow over the crust.

Let's go!
It was easy going. Very hard and crusty.

We did notice, the snow depth was pretty low here,
compared to at home.

At least it's not mud season yet!

We spied many woodpecker carvings in this old cedar.
The water's up already, from the rain and
warm weather we had last week.

OK, we'll pose with you as long as we stay away from the torrent!

Did you know how good it feels to roll on the hard crust?

We recommend it!  Even older mutts like to have them.

Ya, this is the prettiest falls around.

Still good snow on the bridge.

The water is brown from the clay,

Snow shoers had packed the surface nice and flat.

Oh dear...many, many dying spruce have been pulled
down over the trail this winter.

The climb/descent across the river was OK to walk,
not so much to ski.

We only made it a short way before having to turn back from
down trees across the trail.  Will someone clear them this spring?

Even so, we had such a nice romp here today!
