Porkies spring adventures, the hike out.

It's Sunday, our last morning at the Porkies Little Carp cabin.
We don't want to leave! There are still chipmunks and
squirrels to chase. Maybe more friendly campers to visit.

Oh good, we met another friendly trail mutt on our way out!
They were heading in for a day hike.

Bye bye, Pinkerton Creek.  Its brown from tannin.

Just about back to the road and our bread box Honda.

Once back to the car, we did a short drive to the
NCT trail head at Summit Peak Rd.

Wow, no sort of trail clearing here for many years.

Guess nature is taking its course.

We did spy a couple hand-cut limbs here and there.
Although we stepped over another 30, that should be removed.

But mostly, the trail needs lotsa love. Oh well.

Nonetheless, we had many nice hikes over the weekend.
Another grand Porkies adventure is in the books!

Porkies spring adventures, day III

This is Saturday of the Memorial weekend and we'll see plenty of people out here today.  We do like to see people and mutts!
Experienced trail mutts like to roll in the morning sun.

Another fine day to be a trail mutt and in the woods.
Cabin coffee is good for the 2 legged members.

This is the Little Carp and we seen lots of Steelhead trout in it.

They again made me swim across.

And again.  Ya it's scary, but I am a strong, strong swimmer.
While older mutts just take the bridge.

Now we head out to a cabin about 4 miles west of us.

This is one of the many bridges we'll cross today on this
 lake shore hike.

And another.

Oh good! Another cool creek to rest in.  No bridge here.

The 2 legged ones found this one deep, and a challenge to cross.

We made it to Speaker cabin!
It was empty, so ate lunch on the steps.

We've stayed here in the past.  It's a nice location.

Now on our way back. Here we refilled water containers
for the two legged members.  We just drink from streams.

The lake shore has many wet areas and board walks to use.

Later we met some friendly hikers!
They're heading to Speaker's cabin.

And later, more hikers and mutts yet!

Oh ya, they can touch us some.  We do like that.

The mutts have already crossed and wonder why 2 leggeds
remain on the other side.

Now we're almost back to our cabin.

This bridge is about gone.
Our parks just don't have the money to fix things.

Coyote prints?  Wolf?   Or maybe just a trail mutt.

After a little break, we decided to romp over to see
 some of the Big Carp.

We hiked up to Shining Cloud Falls then turned back.

Oh, we met many friendly hikers on this trail!

Again on Lake Superior trail.

Yet more friendly back packers.
They were camped near us, just across us the little carp river.

Now we relax back at our cabin.

Yes, even puppies eventually wear out and need to relax too.

After supper we took one more stroll to view Little Carp river.

We had such a nice day and the sun goes down across
 the big lake.

Porkies spring adventures, day II

NOAA had predicted rain for Friday afternoon, so we headed out with our rain gear and thought we may need to cut this hike short.  The rain never arrived so we ended up doing a 12 mile loop.
This is the bridge over the Little Carp river, and is
just a stone's throw from our cabin.

Ya, it's still spring here and rained this past week.

The Big Carp 4 cabin was still empty.  We'd stayed here before.

A new bridge was installed here just a few years ago.

Up, down, and up and down from the bridge goes the puppy.

Now on Cross Trail. A big blow-down from the past winter.

Many creek crossings today that trail mutts appreciate.

We hiked through sections of hemlock, then hardwoods,
then the big swamp.

Made it to the junction! Wally, Little Carp trail is great.

We stop for lunch at an interesting rock we've stopped at before.

On the back side, it's conglomerate rock.
This must be Copper Harbor conglomerate.

Nature's rock breaking system - moss and freezing water

We traveled right near the Little Carp most of the time.

It's trillium season.

Now what the trail mutts look forward to - the ford.

Hey! The water's fine you know.
The water was cold and fast, so the 2 legged members cross on a snag.

See?  Its cool and fun to swim across!

I crossed several times just for good measure.

Trapper's Falls.

Let's go take another look.

We had such a nice loop hike today.

Supper time! No need to heat the cabin with the wood stove,
so soup was cooked via pop can stove.
We'd never rented a cabin this late in the spring before and
almost didn't bring a food heating system along.

What a fine day on the trail for more than 12 miles.
But trail mutts eventually do get hunger.

After a long hike and kibble, the trail mutts find there
eyelids get very, very heavy.
