Swedetown Trails ride!

The pack knocked off of work early so we could go for our second trail ride of the year. I always say, work is over-rated...going for a trail ride or run for me is waaaaaaay better!
Let's go!

We headed out on the Back Country MTB trail.

I was pretty peppy until I got hot.

We maneuvered around the Adventure Trail rocks.

Finally, I got to take a cooling stop at the Boy Scout bridge.

Here we are on the Cable Connector.

See the cable on/in the trail?

Almost to the intersection...

Then we circled around Farmer's Well.

Good thing they aren't on a 29er, with these bridges and all...

The rock pile is remnants of the old farm.

A big one went down over the winter.

I was brave...I jumped up on it.

Other than the mosquitoes, it was the best ride yet this year!

Second Sunday hike fun!

On Sunday afternoon the Peter Wolfe NCT club had a hike along the Sturgeon River Canyon.  This is my kind of adventure!   A little hike with plenty of friendly people.
This looks like a crowd I can introduce my ears to for
their scratching pleasure.

Oh yea.

Here's another friendly one who will fondle me.

OK Jim, lets go!
I know him from trail work we do together.

We stopped by the falls for a look.

Here was a little rock I jumped on top of.

Jim!  The water is great over here.  Just try it.

Here is the bridge over a pretty creek which was the
turn-around spot for our hike.   I liked it,  I'm a water dog ya know.

I love him...he does trail work.

This stop offered me many opportunities to be very, very friendly.

Guess I gotta round 'em up and we'll go back.

After she scratches my ears, that is.
This was as far as we got today.  What a grand hike we had!.

Latest first ride of the season ever!

Can you believe it? The pack finally got out for a little bike ride tonight. With the long winter, wet spring, and just too busy with other things I had a hard time egging them out. We were all glad to go for a little spin!
I'm in my usual starting spot. Let's go!

The trails were dry but still tacky.

Grass is getting tall...

...the leaves are all out. Not typical for the first ride!

Ya this is a last in the day romp at Tech trails.

They were so slow, I was thinking of passing.

Snow! This is Houghton city snow dump found along the trail.  Its got a stream running under it.

I got to cool off in one of my favorite creeks.

It was great to go for a real run with my pack. Even if it was short!

I hope we ride again soon.

Tomorrow we're going on the inaugural "Second Sunday hike", hosted by the Peter Wolfe Chapter of the North Country Trail. Will you join us? See you at 1:00 at the Canyon Falls rest area parking lot, located a few miles south of L'Anse on Hwy 41. This hike is trail mutt approved!

Up north adventures with Mark's gang!

On Sunday June 2nd we joined Mark's gang to explore around Horseshoe Harbor, which is a little cove just east of Copper Harbor.
We hiked in on the 2-track.

The 2 leggeds thought the north west breeze was chilly.
Me and Bella found it just right!

There were lots of rocks to jump up on.

We all scrambled up. This is conglomerate rock country!

What was here in 1905??
The pounding surf made me nervous.

C'mon! Even you 2-leggeds can get across that little crack.

Sharon hopped across with a little helping hand.

Some hearty Keweenaw vegetation was found up here.

This was quite the conglomerate rock outcrop.

Some very yellow moss.

Bella showed the gals how to climb down...
...I guided Andre.

Can we jump back up?

Stromatolites which can be read about here.

I had a refreshing dip in the warm frog pool.

We checked this crevice out.
Its the same one we bravely jumped across.

Kathy is at the perfect level for consistent ear scratching.
She's always a good choice for affection.
Frankly I don't get much of that ya know.

The gang stopped for snacks. Me and Bella didn't get any.

Me and Bella tussled around.

Time to trek back uphill and to the car.

All in all, a grand adventure up in the Keweenaw!
