North Country Trail camp N hike

his past weekend (May 5th-6th) we packed the dog truck with trail tools and hooked the camper up, then we headed to Gardner road.
Where did the beaver and their pond go?!  This bridge was floating
last fall, and we skied right over it a few weeks ago.

Seems they've move on and their dam washed out.
Now we've got to clean things up.

All these dead falls need to go.

Then we added corduroy in the muddy sections.

The bridges abutment was undermined so we may need to move it a bit.

Sandy adds a finishing touch with some Connie tape.
We will need to re-blaze this section.

Now we can relax in the best camping spot in the whole UP!

This is real trail mutt stuff here Wally.

I think Wally is starting to wind down. "It's been a busy day!"

We hauled in some fire pit rocks from the old Lake Mine site.

MMMMM, Steak!
Camping is all about good food.

Dean and Bubba came by to visit us!

The next morning.  Junior trail mutts wonder about
and check the smells.

Bacon! Camp breakfast is the best.

On Sunday, Marjory and Doug met us for a trail inspection hike.

We drove to the gate at the FS road and hiked around to the
west side of our segment.

The trail mutts led the way, as usual.

Surprise! We met a friendly back packer. Jerry is on the NCT board.
We love him for helping with that!

The creeks were all flowing.

We pondered potential re-routes in case of Spring Creek
being un-crossable.

Me and Marj take a break together. Where's Wally?

Oh there he is.

Spring Creek was still up quite a bit.

Me and Wally were glad for a few cooling stops.

Hey! I spied vermin.

I'm so glad Doug and Marjory came out with us today.

It's great to get out before the grass all grows up,
and the ticks all come out!

Towards the end of the day...Wally finally needed a break.

After a busy, busy weekend, this puppy just couldn't
keep awake any longer.
