A few weeks ago, the pack hiked the North Country trail along the Sturgeon River to the Krumm shelter and farther west a few more miles. While hiking, we found that a large volume of dead falls had came across the trail over the winter. Today we returned with saws and removed them in a 2 mile section from the shelter west to the Ottawa forest.
The fire of 2007 killed many trees, and they are falling down everywhere and across the trail. |
Arly's trying his new saw. He says it really cuts! |
We stayed a safe distance away from that noisy thing... |
Good thing I was along for supervision.... He doesn't seem to know what he's doing |
Ya, much of the trail looked like this. |
