Friendly visitors news!

Some tourists stopped by just to see us!  We're on the warm shower list and offer touring cyclists a place to stay.
We love seeing friendly cyclists!
This is Rita and Chuck they are from Whitefish MT.

They camped in the yard since Arlyn and Sandy never get their
extra bedroom done.

Sandy just got home from work.  Where did that Wally go?

Here I am!

Now they're packing to leave.  We'll miss these two!
Oh good, Joshua our paper boy came by to see us too. We love him!

Sunday trail adventures

On Sunday, trail adventures continued with hikes, but not much actual work done.
Back at Gardner road, this is so nice.
Will we be back here for the Labor day weekend?

We went for a short morning hike to see if the section to the east
had been cleared.  As far as we could tell, no one has touched it.
Then some friendly hikers showed up. We love them!
We told them what to expect, heading west.
They were headed to O-Kun-De-Kun and Hwy 45.
We drove to FD 1100 to hike it east...

Ya, we found some dead-falls across it.

This is a pretty section.  We'll head east until we see the crossing
we whacked this past weekend.

We crossed the tracks.

Oh dear, there is a board walk under this.

Lookin' good! This is where we stop and turn back.

And have lunch.

Maybe Arly needs to come here with the pole saw.

Newholm Creek is perfect for a cool dip.  It's not even muddy!
Seems the old bridge was washed downstream a bit.

Back at the road. Arly did put up a temporary sign.
We found that hikers were still hiking the road after a
re-route was done.

We pack to go home!

Behind the Twin Lakes DNR buildings is an old ski trail.

Seems it's not being cared for any longer.
This is our favorite early winter ski romp place.

Ya, some dead falls here.

Ontonagon River descent adventures

On Friday evening we packed our tools and headed to our favorite remote camp site on Gardner RD.   This is just southeast of Mass City, MI.  Then on Saturday morning we'd hike to the Middle Branch of the Ontonagon River descent and clear it of brush-n-weeds.  This had not been in years and is just west of our section of the North Country Trail.
It was just before dark when we got to camp, and it was time
for chasing, growling and snapping of teeth! Ya, we do that.

It rained overnight but the next morning, the
sun came out to announce a wonderful day.
Josh showed up and we had to get out there and get busy.

It's more than a mile out on what we call "Pattison RD"

We made it in and now trail clearing begins.

Josh is running string while Sandy lops and removes slash.

Ya, it really needs it here.
Weed city?

We stop for lunch and where did the dogs go?  We love Josh!
We found a few portions nearly impassable to hike.
We later dropped our tools and walked the rest of the way down.

This is quite the suspension bridge here.

We take in the sights.

We take them in it too!

Then they told us we needed to get in the river and drink.
Wally then ran across and swam.
The woods will be covering the support tower soon.

Yes, we'll need to cut these trees off and knock the brush back.
This is the trail.

Neat lichen seen along the trail.

Ya Sandy, throw that brush off.

Arly cuts a dead-fall off the trail.  He did this many times today.
Back at the top after a long day.
We spent over 10 hours here and everyone is tired!

More Bob Lake campground adventures!

A few weeks back, we camped at the Bob Lake campground and never got the photos posted.   So here they are!
Hey!  Are we going to be camping again soon?
Oh good!  We are back at Bob Lake NF campground.
This is about 30 miles SW of us.
We found a friendly couple from CO on the site right
next door.  Oh ya Amy, you can touch me.
They had a pup Dyna, who I could tussle with.

Oh we really got into it!

We bit, growled and chased!

The next morning.

We went for a hike on the nature path found here.

We also got to meet the friendly fisherman loading there boat.
They love the water, just like we do.

We had such a nice time here.
