On Saturday morning, Arly had a rare weekend day off, so we headed to Copper Harbor for some back county adventures. This is going to be a big post! With the lake freezing over, seems like snow isn't as frequent and Arly has more time for fun like this.
Wally! This is Copper Harbor. It's a Trail Mutt's paradise!
I've been here many times over the years. |
Ya Sandy, be sure you put some $$ in for me and Wally too.
We must support trails that are trail mutt friendly! |
Good snow depth...this trail marker was buried! |
Now we embark on our back country adventure.
Under this bridge, we seen Otter tracks. |
Which way should we go Gromit? |
We'll head up to the Stairway to Heaven. |
The little climb up to the stairway was no problem with all-paw drive. |
Ya Wally, this is a real long board walk. |
Gee whiz it's been a windy winter.
We went under, over or around, a dozen trees today. |
Hey! We're up a ways. No one seems nervous so I'm OK with that. |
Up and up we keep going. |
Snow shoers had been here before the last snow, which helped
us trail mutts lots. |
We went up and up, then we went further up this mountain. |
We are almost to the top now Wally! |
The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge is that-a-way, but
we'll take a right here. |
Snow dogs recommend a good belly cooling. |
They sat on that railing for a tea break. Ya there's good snow depth. |
The going gets tough here, no more snow shoe tracks. |
Us trail mutts had to follow the 2-leggeds. |
Now we cross highway 41 at the Mountain Lodge driveway. |
We took a little break here, then headed down Garden Brook trail. |
The water was gurgling in the little gorge below. |
Everyone is getting tired, even the puppy with his short legs struggles. |
Snow can really pile up in this wind protected gully. |
On this side of the canyon, we seen lots more sunshine. |
Snow was getting sticky in some spots. |
I think we'll have better dogs tonight! |
Whee! Finally getting some glide heading down hill. |
Oh-oh, someone is growing snow balls on her long coat. |
Oh ya, I just lost 5 pounds! |
Last intersection. |
We found the trail freshly packed now, and the critters who did it
had been here looking for things to eat.
Who could that be? Seems they went down the trail, ahead of us. |
We cross back over across the field by the ponds to the ski trail. |
"I'm glad to be on a packed trail again!" says the older dog, |
We had such a grand adventure here today. |
While driving back up 41, we spied our trail-packing critters.
Yes, turkeys! |
