Another fun day at Lake Ste Kathryn!

On Sunday, we thought it would be a great day for end-of-winter romp at Lake Stn Kathryn. We packed up skis, snow shoes, and ice trekkers so we'd be ready for any condition.

Oh it's good to be back at one of our favorite places!

It was plowed right to the boat launch.

It froze over night and stayed below freezing all day.

We headed around the trail going clockwise.

Oh we love to gaze over Deer Marsh.

We spied some pod tracks on the 2-track.

It was pretty good going, since the snow was still quite firm.

We had to make sure the viewing platform was still there.

OK let's get back on the trail.

Down the hill and across the board walk we go!

Most of the swamp is still snowed over.

But the creek is still flowing! Culvert remains clear.

Sure looking like spring.
Wally watered the plants just to be sure.

We stopped for lunch at the north end shelter.

Guess we'll clear off this down tree later this spring.

Down where the trail is adjacent to Martin Lake Rd.,
we were surprised to find rather fresh beaver cuts and drags.

Must have run low on food this winter?

Red squirrels have been munching on their winter stores.

This board walk was mostly clear, since it's sun exposed all day.

We were surprised to find no old ski or snow shoe tracks.

Towards the end of the hike the crust was getting a little softer.

Soon, those with small paws were sinking in.

We had such a grand outing today!

And at home, somebody got the rest of her springtime
haircut. Gotta be ready for mud season! She did
get out for a romp on Friday evening on the trails
but we didn't get any photos of that.
