HPS visit and continued cool

It didn't get above zero today and the wind blew hard out of the NW.   Arly took us for a ride to do errands and we stopped at Houghton Power Sports to visit the friendly staff there.  We did get out for walk late in the day, but it's pretty cool here.
Hey! We haven't gotten to visit here in a while.
Wally never has.
Hi Todd!

I had to smile and wag at everyone.

Oh ya, you can pet us both.

Hey! Someone dropped popcorn here.

This is our favorite power sport shop!
The service dept. is trail mutt approved.

More cool-n-snow adventures

On Sunday afternoon the pack all put their layers on and headed to High Point Rd to see if we could stand to stay out for a romp.
On our way to the trail head, we spied a whole rafter of turkeys.
(Google says, that's what you call a flock of them!)

Hey! The sun is even going to shine some.
It was below zero today, as our high.

Although it is still lake-effect hazy.

We romped on some previously snow-shoe packed trails.

C'mon! We can't wait on you slow pokes all day.

Ya! Let's go.
We had a nice little romp today.

Later, Arly had some deep-snow adventures of a different sort.
Ya, our snow is getting deep!
Arly thinks a new ski trail will get groomed with this machine.

Cool-n-snow, gorge adventures

For Saturday's high, NOAA said it would be 6 but with a breeze, so we headed into the gorge for some deep snow adventures.   Ya, its been snowing and we rolled over 140" for this season.
This is a bridge that didn't get washed out this past summer,
but didn't get put back into use.  Why not?

When puppies run past an old dog, sometimes they'll get bit!

With all this cool weather, we've only gotten out for short romps.

Down in the gorge, there was hardly any wind.

Whee!

Snow dogs were in their element today.
Some snow shoers pre-packed the trail for us yesterday.

Older dogs wear booties which helps to keep paws warmer.

Hey! We found an excellent snow bridge.

And another.

We especially love romping by rivers in the winter time.

Hey! We bumped into Scott and Jill
with their trail mutt, Zoie.

Me and Zoie romped around and tussled some too.
And there were so many interesting things to sniff.
I hope we have another adventure tomorrow!

Snow-N-cool!

Ya, it got cool here, so cool that outdoor actively has been reduced.  To us on the south shore of da BIG lake, zero degrees is cold!  Good news is the lake snow machine has turn on and been hard at it for more than 2 weeks.  Snow is really piling up!
Older dogs don't do cool weather as well as they once did.
But snow dogs insulation is still good!

Monday aftennoon romp

Sandy got off early enough that we headed to the Pilgrim River Watershed trails, just south of town.
Ya, we come down here sometimes, if we have enough
time before dark.

It's been cool here, today's high was about 14 degrees
so we've not got many photos.

At least we seen the sun!

We don't see it much all winter, living on the south shore.

Hopefully soon it will snow some more!

Pretty good depth on the picnic table.

The snow shoers had packed the trails which made our
going easy today.

Hunting was good, as usual.

OK, time to head for the dog truck.

I hope we can come back again soon.

Cool-n-snow adventures

Yes indeed. The temps have fallen here and some nights have gotten below zero -  something that doesn't happen often here.  We have been out for adventures and snow has been falling but taking  photos has been a challenge.
Saturday at Maasto, we got out for a romp.
Hey! It's Chris. We know you!

Luna, we haven't seen you in a while.  I think I'll bite!

We'll tussle and chase!

Ya Chris, let us get our tussle-time in, then you can get going.
I hope we see you again soon!

The fun continues!

Oh ya, we got back home on Sunday night, so on Monday we went for deep snow romp at the Pilgrim Watershed Trail off of Boundary Rd.
Our snow is finally getting deep enough for real
winter adventures. This is a picnic table.

Hey! I'm following some interesting tracks down here.

The trail mutts led the way.

Hunting was good! You never know what you'll find under a balsam.

Older dogs lay and wait for the pack to catch up
while puppies romp about up ahead.

We had such a nice romp today.  3.5 miles in 2 hours.
Ya the snow is getting deep!

More snow-romping vacation adventures!

On Sunday, the 2-leggeds met some friends for breakfast, then we went for a most excellent adventure on Arly and Sandy's favorite trail in the Ironwood area: The Uller!  These are just west of Hurley WI.
They said there's new signs. Trail mutts don't need no signs!

Oh hey! A friendly snow shoer. We like this trail already!

The trail was groomed recently.

They have added some loops which we found quite scenic.

The terrain is rolling with many challenging twists and turns.

One of the many twisty turns.

Hey! I found a creek.

And I found some very friendly skiers!  Turns out,
Arly and Sandy had skied with some of them years ago.

Oh ya, you know we love friendly skiers.

Won't we see you again soon??

Finally we made it down the sketchy hill to the Scribner Meadow shelter.

We got to visit more with our skier friends again who
were heading back to there car on Hoyt rd.

Then, up up up to head back.

These friendly skiers are from the Cities.  We love them.
And they just bought a house in Ironwood for more XC adventures.

Oh, looks like some summer time trail repair is in order here.

It was kinda nice to see the sun.
Now we head back on the new trails.

This is along one of the new loops. Yes, lots of nice terrain!

A wiser, older dog stayed on the trail, while a
puppy was off hunting in the deep snow.

Another breathtakingly beautiful spot.

We had to take a closer look.

Many areas here were quite brushy.
Maybe we should come by this summer to help clear some?
Done with the last loop, and almost back to the trailhead.
I spied some fishermen on Weber Lake. I wanted to go visit them!

Charlie! We bumped into you on the Uller before.
