Morning at the Pilgrim River WS trails, take II

On Sunday morning, we headed back to the Pilgrim River Watershed trails to try to do more clearing before the day's predicted heat set in.
Sandy gathers a huge bunch of cuts to drag into the woods.
She pulls them out far enough, to not be seen by hikers.

We're getting close to the river, where we can take cool dips.

They take a break on the river bank.  I could use a snack as well!

It's getting cleared and cleared.

Slowly, its looking better out here.

We finally made it to the river bottom.

Now we hike out.
It was getting too warm and humid out for the two legged members.

In the afternoon at home, me and Wally helped cut
and load buckthorn to be hauled away.
All in all, it was a very busy weekend.

Morning at the Pilgrim River Watershed trails

The forecast was for warm, muggy conditions so the pack got out to the trail early to beat the heat. We ended up staying longer than planned since it turned out to be quite pleasant.

We parked by the east side single track,
and started clearing in from here.

Hey! I see a squirrel.

What a wonderful morning to be in the woods.
Canopy cut and laying on the trail.

What is she looking at?
A little bushy here.

All cleared! Well ya, this is a different bridge.

Some minor saw grief...

Hey!  We're hungry too!

Pilgrim Watershed trail morning mowing

On Monday morning, we meet at John's house, then headed out on the Pilgrim Watershed trail to do more maintenance on it.
John was going to mow down the weeds on the logging paths.

Arly brought tools to move a map post.

It was a perfect morning for doing trail work.

Trails mutts like us, are all about doing trail work!

John gets a mowing.

While Arly pulled a map post out that wasn't placed
in the best position.

Older mutts like me stay close by while
annoying puppies are in the woods hunting.
The map holder roofs are quite weathered and in need
of replacement. Arly's got a plan for that.

That's better.
Its now placed across the path and a bit further down.
Hopefully, this will be less confusing for hikers.

John made many passes.

The trail did need a good mowing.

The trail from the gate on Boundary road,
to the Pilgrim river picnic table is now mowed.  Thanks John!

Now mowing on the east sides logging path when
John's mower broke down.

Also done today was the moving of stored lumber
to locations where it will be used.

Weekend adventures at church and with John!

Over the weekend we did much, including get to Good Shepherd Church. You know we love to go to church!
Oh ya Jason, you can pet me some.
We don't get none at our house.

Stephen,  glad to meet ya!

Oh Bucky, we've not seen you in some time.

You can pet two mutts at once.

Yes I will nibble on those fingers!

Oh ya Joyce.  I could use more scratching
I didn't get much from Bucky.

Puppies need their chest rubbed as well.

I'm so glad to see you Bier girls!

We do like little girls.

And big ones too. Hi Paige!

I'm so glad you and Matt are here today.

Who are you? I like you already.

We love all these multi-tasking folks who
can scratch us both at once.

We're going to miss Jerry and Joy.

Thanks for bringing those kids Christine.

Sunday evening, John came over to have dinner with us!
We know him because he helps on the Pilgrim Watershed trails.
 We love that.

Saturday morning Pilgrim Watershed trail and Marco!

Saturday morning was looking to be a good day for trail work, so out to the Pilgrim Watershed trail we went.
Dave came to help! We love to have him along.

This tree had broken off and hung over the trail for a
few years.  Now it's finally down and gone!

I pointed out to Sandy a branch she had missed.

It was warm, but still a great day to be out in the woods.

Sandy gathers a bundle of branches to get off the trail.

The end, just after noon.
We're so glad you came out with us Dave!

Let's hike out.  We must have got 1/4 of a mile done today.

We stopped to visit John on our way home.

Later, Marco made it back from the Isle, where he met Emanuel
who's from Austria, but getting a PhD in Iowa.

We were so glad these fellas stopped by just to see us!
Bye bye, and have fun in Copper Harbor.
