Boundary Rd Trail on Pilgrim River work bee.

On Sunday we were back to clear more logging roads at Boundary Rd's Pilgrim River trails.

Sure looking more fall-like all the time!

Log across the trail.

Gone!

Ya, pretty brushy out here.

We take a break! Well, the 2-leggeds did anyway.
I am always on the look out for game.

Arly takes out some trees that fell across
the trail several winters ago.

This is where we quit for the day.

Ellen came out to help us.
She is an experienced trail grunt, ya know!

Oh, on the way out, we got to be social!
I hope we see you all back soon.

New TV!

After not watching our 1990's vintage tube television in 4 or 5 years, we finally decided to replace it with a modern one.

Oh it did come in a BIG box.

She was so excited to check it out she forgot to
remove the white strips it was packed with.
But I do see a squirrel in the yard!

I like jumping in the water, like that bird did.
I sure hope we get out and do trail work on Sunday!

Church again!

On Sunday we were in town, so we got to go to church again.
We love outdoor church service!
Hi Jeff! Watcha doing?

I like to help, you know.

Hi Karen, I haven't seen you in a while.

Then I got to say hi to Martin.

And of course I like to say hi to Bucky.
We met when I was just a tiny 8 week old puppy,
peeing on everything all the time.

Hi Danny! I don't think we've met before.

After all that socializing, I had to take a snooze.

Communion time. 4-leggeds take advantage.

I got to be in line so I got to do more socializing.

Danielle, maybe later I can meet your puppy.

Pretty good attendance today.

After church, me and Basil finally got to meet.

She's only 7 months old so I had to act like the boss.

And then I had to be aloof. Older dogs can be like that.

Bye Kathy! See you soon.

Hey! I got to meet some new kids today.

You know I love little girls.

I hope we can come back soon.

Pilgrim Forest trails fun!

On Saturday, Ellen joined us for more brush clearing fun at the Pilgrim Forest trails.

Ellen, we're so glad you came out today!

We got another 200ft or so, done today.  Ya it was brushy.

Oh ya, no one ever scratches my neck at home!

To avoid cutting new growth of white pines
and spruce on the logging road, we moved to the
ditch where only maple whips had sprouted.

In the afternoon, we strolled down to river.

And looked at the clearing left to do.

It's not as bad as the photos show.
We'll bypass many of these trees.

We lounge at the picnic table.

And now we head for home.  It's fall color time already!

Trail clearing Pilgrim!

Exciting news folks! We will be grooming some of the logging roads/trails at the Pilgrim Watershed Trails on Boundary Rd. this winter. So we're clearing an old logging trail that cuts from the main loop, in to the single track hiking trail. This will give winter trail users 3 groomed paths in to the single track, to provide various options of length for skiing, snow shoeing, skijoring, phat biking, etc. The single track trail will of course remain user-groomed but hopefully the trails will gain more regular traffic to keep those trails easily used also.

Sunday morning. Ready to go!

Arly installed a temporary sign at the logging road
we're clearing so hikers won't be confused and to tell folks
that some trails will be groomed this winter.

Before: pretty over grown.

After!

Squirrel hunting was good today.
Here I'm making a rare appearance.

At the end of the day, we hiked down to where the logging
road meets the 2-track. We'll cut brush to make a turn-around spot somewhere near here.
Sure will be fun to ski this winter!

Heading home from Ely.

Sorry we forgot to post this last week but on Sunday, we packed up the bread box to head back home. We had such a nice time with Gramma and Grampa, but we do like to get back home after being away.

We stopped in Brule to stretch our legs at
the After Hours Trails and look who was there!

It's Trish Evans, with Jasper and Juniper!

Juniper can tell I love little girls.

We had so much fun meeting the Evans gang (minus Bob).
Maybe they will come visit the Copper Country now that
they've moved back to Trish's home town.

Then Lunch break at the Ashland pocket park.

Arly spied this bar and chain someone left behind in the Gazebo.

Then we swung over to hike the trail
to Wildcat Falls, near Watersmeet.

This 1 1/2 mile lollypop trail was rather nice.

It was rough and rugged, but marked.

The falls of course weren't much, with our
exceptionally dry summer.

They were great for taking a dip though!

Trail mutts like drinking from streams with waterfalls.

We spied this cedar with north-facing moss.

What a nice way to end a long weekend.

At home, I was ready to come in and take a nap.
