O-Kun-de-Kun falls trail inspection hike

This was on Sunday afternoon on the 22nd when Dean met us at O-Kun-de-Kun falls to hike in and see if gravel could be hauled in to repair the ADA trail here.   It's washed out so badly in just 2 years, it's no longer passable for some wheel chairs.

We swung by Dean's house on Aspen Lane, then
headed to the trail head to check out some access points.

Dean brought his GPS to keep track of
where various paths were.  Lots of smart talk here!

Made it to the falls!

Some mutts are told to jump up on boulders all the time.

Later, we hiked out on the trail and
met many friendly people and dogs!

They were up on vacation from Oshkosh.

Dean checked out the bridge widths.
Little too narrow to traverse via ATV...

This hot, hot, hot August week

The pack isn't doing all too much of excitement lately. Here's a few pics of this week in the dogs' life.

When you're out for a romp, you gotta
take every chance to have a cooling dip.

We were out to the Pilgrim Watershed Trail for
an abbreviated hike, since it was 85 degrees.

Kelpies like to jump up on stuff.

Down in the Pilgrim River, Arly had me leap
up on this huge rock. I could have died!

Oh wait, I guess it wasn't that hard after all.

Sometime I just like to protest what Arly
tells me to do. You know, regular Kelpie stuff.

We had a nice romp here today despite the heat.

I hope we come back soon!

Meanwhile, Gromit was at home, guarding the yard.
Oh and keeping an eye out for friendly visitors!

Hey we found some! Jimmy and Casey came
by, just to see us.

You can come and see me any time.

Pilgrim Watershed Trails touch up.

On Saturday morning before it got too hot out, we headed to the Pilgrim Watershed Trails to remove a tree that had fallen across that it. While we were at it, we checked most of the trail and even made a cut-across trail more passable.

A down tree was spied out here this past
week but we couldn't get back to it until today.

This is such a nice three mile trail.

I can even take dips in the Pilgrim River!

They took a short break here. I kept on vermin hunting.

The Spruce have bud-worms here and will die off.

Oh good, we found it.

Buzz, buzz buzz.

A few minutes later, it's gone.

More hiking.

Now we've cut away from the main trail
to make this cut-across path easier to negotiate.
We often ski on this 2 track.
So, we get back to work.
It's kind of a mess.
But no problem for Arly's saw.
One last one before we get out.
Gone in seconds.
What a nice way to spend Saturday morning.

Friday fun, featuring friendly vistors!

Oh ya. On Friday the pack invited some folks who are relatively new in the neighborhood over for margaritas. Oh and to see us, of course!

The famous Meckler's of Garnet Street!

We played a rousing round of Simon Says.

Oh, then the Erickson's came home!

Ya Adam I'll be your newest best bud.

Kids n dogs just go together.

Oh we had lots of good kid time.

Maija! We wear matching colors!!

Ya you all can rub me.

Jana must need another margarita.

We're so lucky to have such good neighbors all around!

Trail work and camping weekend fun at Bob Lake!

On Friday evening we seen the camper being packed and were giddy to hear that we were headed to Bob Lake campground! We were there once this spring but this was our first camp trip there this summer.

This is a good sign!

Then Daisy and Jan stopped by!   We love them.

It was busy here and we were lucky to get the last lake side site.

Even Kelpies think they're water dogs.

At dusk, some kayakers paddled by.

The next morning we met the
friendly neighbors and they even had dogs!

We tussled some.

We're so glad you guys came up to camp here.

Huummmmm Neuske's bacon and coffee.
It's not a camp breakfast without them!

Can you see me up there??  This is weedy!

I don't like the noise, but do like it cleared.

All better.

We spied this fellow in the pond.  It's a trumpeter.
Sadly, it didn't seem to have a mate.

I took a nice, cooling dip here.

At the end of the day, I was tired and waited to get back in.

The Beaver Lodge trail is now officially cleared.

Back in camp, I met more campers.

They were from Florida and so friendly.

It was perfect weather for camping and we relaxed.

I was tired and needed a nap.

Steak over the open fire, of course.

Even the older mutts can rub in the grass.

The next day we headed to Courtney Lake, to
do a little work on the Circle of Life trail.

And cleared all the maple shoots along here.

Friendly hikers stopped by. They are the locally "famous",
the "Six Mile Late retirees". They hike the trail daily!

When will we be back for another fun
Ottawa National Forest adventure?
