Hikes, rides, Ely and more

Oh Ya, my pack needed some time off and planned to attend a Duluth-Superior Symphony performance with Sandy's folks.  I don't get out much ya know.   On Friday the 6th, we headed west knowing it was going to get warm out, so we decided to not ride that day.   I'm more of a winter dog ya know.   We got onto the North County trail just west of Mellen WI to hike a short section of it.

This is a ski trail over the winter.

The Marsh Marigolds are coming out.

We crossed a creek which I used to cool off and drink from. 
Trail mutts do that.

We checked out the shelter here.  Are we going to stay?

Looks like some trail signs are coming down.
Maybe it needs some trail love?

This was quite a nice hike.  We've skied here as well.

It was a nice hike, but quite warm out.

Then we headed to Cable WI!  We usually camp, but with it
 being a rather short stay, we got a Humming Bird
 cabin which are near Cable, reasonably priced,
 very nice plus they are trail mutt approved.

Oh good, since it was cooler out the next morning,
we got out for a run!  (Well, they rode...)

We are members of the CAMBA trails.

We took a little break. Arly was getting tired.

We cross the high point of this trail. Didn't spot a ski jump.

It was a great run, so I cool off in the shade.

Now we're at my favorite Days Inn motel in Duluth.
 They are trail mutt approved and I even spied some kids here!

First ride -n- camp adventure of the season, part 2

 Saturday after our ride adventures, we had more fun at camp. 

Hey! I spied a chipmunk go down this hole.

Suppertime! I had lame kibble.

MMM...fire roasted steak, veggies, and toast.

After supper, I egged them out for more adventure.
We went around a short nearby trail.

I found some new friends!

Although, they were not interested in being friendly.
They scampered right up the tree when I tried to say "hi".

Where's the dog?  Hunting dogs can hide among the roots.

Later, I made more progress on excavating out that chippy.

After another brisk evening, we got up for Sunday breakfast.
As usual, I didn't get any pancakes. 
Gee, it again got near 30 last night.

Then, down to Namekagon Township Hall trail head.

We had the trails to ourselves today.

The day started out cloudy and cool -
perfect for a winter dog.

Hey! I think we should go that way.

Oh my, some winter fall across the trail.

Later, the sun came out.

I'm glad it didn't get any warmer!

Almost back.

We pop back out by the township hall.

We finally got started!

They got the camper out which could only mean one thing: 
camping adventure!
When Sandy got home on Friday afternoon, we packed up and headed west to our favorite FS campground near Cable WI.

We got our favorite site!

I'll rub my snout right here.

The sun went down shortly after we set up. 

We discovered the CG was completely empty.
It was cool overnight, close to 32. 

We also found the water pump was busted
from a large object striking it.  Can you guess what?
Without water, they'll not be showering but I just use
whatever creek or lake.

OK, maybe now we can run some!
On Saturday morning, we started out at the OO trail head.

Ya Arly, let's take the Makwa trail

No leaves = good sighting for hunting!

Makwa means bear in Ojibwe...wonder if we'll spot one.

After lunch we headed over to ride the Ojibwe trail.

9 year olds say, I need to save my joints for hunting later.

They have such a nice chalet here.

Arly admired the stove and the mitten driers.

Up to the start we go.

We out-of-shape riders just went for a short jaunt.

But fun, all the same!

Early spring, once it's dry like now, is the best.
No bugs and you can see everything!

And of course the temps are excellent.
