Grand Adventures with Larry and David!

On Sunday David W and Larry said they'd take us for a Grand ski adventure across the bay to see the Grand Island ice caves.
I love my new pal David!

Across the lake ice we go!  David knew the safe way. I was so glad.
You should know I'm a very conservative dog.

Lets go! You people are so slow...

An 1850's light house.  It needs paint!
Along the shore we go looking for them caves.  I see some!

Water drips off of and through the rock and forms icicles of all sizes.

I think someone else was here on Saturday.

What's in there Larry? Be Careful!
OK maybe it was us.

We had a grand time at Grand Island. Maybe we'll
get to come back this summer!

McKeever-N-Larry adventures in Munising

I needed to "get away" and see my favorite pal in the whole world, Larry. So we headed east on Friday to Munising just so I could see him.
I love Larry, he touches me.

On Saturday afternoon we skied the finest paw
friendly trails in the area: McKeever Hills.
Oh ya Larry grooms these.

Are we lost?

These are Beech trees.

We had SUCH a nice ski here.  Thanks Larry!
We even checked out a BC trail.

I guess it's no secret.  The parking lot was busy.
It's no wonder...this place is Trail Mutt approved!

This week on da trail

I let Arly take a little bit of my blog space.
That's OK because I love ski trails too!
This is the new drag.  He claims it's the best implement KNSC has today...

The Griz handles the drag just fine. It has all-paw drive, just like me.

It levels the trail and smooths out the bumps.
It compacts the snow better than a roller does.

Next he set tracks with the Ginzu.

The River Trail is nice and level from the drag.

He says the trails looked as good as ever today,
until the snow started to come down and cover them all up.
You won't hear ME complaining about more snow!

He did the BC trail in Churning Rapids which hadn't been
compacted in a while.
It was DEEP! I wish I'd been there...

See the snow blowing off the pod?

He says this machine is the best and could even handle this deep powder while pulling the roller. Why aren't the head lights working??

Skiing the North American Trail

On Sunday afternoon we joined Mark Roberts' gang for a ski down the North American trail which starts on Cliff Drive just NE of Calumet MI.  This was a wagon trail cut when the North American Mine was operating in around 1860 and was their access down to Eagle River.  We had always wanted to see it!
Some stream crossings!

Mark is pointing out mine ruins

The North American Mine steam plant stack

I had paw maintenance to do.

I think we need to get going Obie.

Don't leave me!

We stopped to view the Big Lake.

We really did have some great views from the top.

All-paw drive worked great for me and Bally.

Sarah came too!

C'mon! Point those boards down hill and let's GO!

BC ski in Churing Rapids

On Saturday the pack decided on a close to home adventure. We hadn't Back Country skied Churning Rapids in a while, and it did not disappoint!
It was great for bounding.
Doing that is my specialty!
We had some very scary stream crossings to do.
See the raging torrent?
Thank heavens I was able to leap over safely.
Sometimes I forget I'm a water dog...
We took a cooling stop.
This is the old Christensen Farm site.
There are some nice big oaks near here.
The snow mushroom fell off the tree's top and rolled down.
The snow was also sticking onto my luxurious, long coat.
I did not think this was very funny.
We skied up Spring Creek gorge and even on top of it.
Arly had to assist with snow ball removal before we went home.

Friday's a snow day

Some friendly skiers came up from Escanaba for the Bear Chase race AND to see me.  I love that!
We're on the Maasto trails. They're my favorite!

Eric B.came to. The more the merrier in my book.

I love  a good hill to run down. Isn't the snow pretty??!!

Gee, we had so much fun.

Terry grooms paw friendly trails in Escanaba .
I love him for doing that!

fast medical trip to Sioux Falls

The pack got word last week that Arly's Dad got hurt and was in the hospital. It seems that he and my kindred friends Jake and Chip (Border Collies) were out herding the cattle back home when he rolled over his 4-wheeler. We were awfully worried about him so we jumped in the Bread Box Honda and headed southwest to the pack's old stompin' grounds, Sioux Falls SD.
Sandy worked here 18 years ago. She must have been P.T. in preschool!
If I make a hearty donation, can we call this place "Sanford & Gromit"?

Where's the prime rib? Herbie thinks Jell-O is ok for now.

I love kids! This one is not so lively though.
