This weekend we headed south to clear an unadopted North Country Trail portion. We camped at the parking area off of FH 16, and worked from there going west.
We left town early enough to arrive with time to spare to set up
plus heat up supper. |
Then, we got to meet some friendly NCT hikers
with trail mutts like us! |
Oh ya, we got right down to tussling ASAP! |
Jim and Nancy are hiking the whole NCT, in long-weekend chunks. |
In the morning, what can get you ready for trail work better
than coffee, bacon, and pancakes?? |
First we cleaned up the spur trail, then the road crossings. |
Now going west from FH 16. Arly doesn't get this big saw out
very often but we found this BIG one across the trail today.
(Special note, 98% of sawing we do is with a pole saw.) | |
Hey! Who's in there? |
A mouse! |
After trimming branches, we finish up with whacking the shoots. |
Such a pretty section of trail. |
Guess this tree has been down for some time. |
Lunch! Don't I get some? |
At this logging road crossing, they cleared out a big popple crown
that was blocking the trail. |
But they didn't get a pre-cleared photo. Oh well... |
Lotsa branches were moved away before the shoots could be
mowed down.We spent an hour here, but now it's lookin' good again! |
We of course had campfire-cooked supper. |
On the way home, we stopped in to check out some REAL
logging equipment. |
You can really cut and move trees with this! |
Pretty cool to see this equipment up close. It cost around $400,000. |
